Created by a handful of Canadian men in 1991 on the second anniversary of one man’s massacre of 14 women in Montreal, the White Ribbon Campaign began as a way to urge men to speak out against violence against women.
This annual Gala urges more men to speak up and out against it, educates men about how they can be part of the solution in ending the violence against women and children and raises funds for a local D.V. shelter.

Created in 2019 in memory of LLN Board Member, Antonio Arrendel’s daughter who left us suddenly in September 2018. Samaya and her sister would happily accompany their father as volunteers to many of our domestic violence awareness events…she lives in our hearts each and every day. The award is presented to a teen (age 17 to 19) each year who is passionate about D.V. Awareness or has been affected by the issue of abuse for the purpose of college tuition.
To be considered for the award, please email a 1 page essay (no later than February 1st), describing ways you have sought to raise awareness on the issue or how domestic violence has touched you or your family to firstname.lastname@example.org (all correspondence is confidential) . The current award amount is $700 and will be announced the night of the Gala (which you must attend as our guest).
