Domestic violence (d.v.) continues to be 1 of the most under/not reported crimes. One reason can be because a victim is concerned that if they call the police, their immigration status may be reported and they may be deported. This was one of the concerns I brought up speaking before Brockton City Council at the invitation from Brockton Interfaith (BIC) this past week during the 2nd convening on passing the Trust Act.

The purpose of the Act would be to increase public confidence in the city’s police department and encourage the community to work with them regardless of their immigration status…on not just d.v., but a myriad of other issues that stop folks from helping to keep their communities safer.

Many thanks to BIC for their work on bringing this issue before City Council.
