Boston’s Women’s March!

By admin on February 2017 in Layers

Phenomenal morning taking part in my 1st March...getting a chance to speak out about the rights of those who deserve to live in a world free of domestic violence as well as other injustices. Empowering to say the least. While it does not solve the problem, it certainly gave many a chance to speak out about issues that affect us as women, given the current political climate. See more from the empowering morning HERE! [caption id="attachment_3016" align="alignleft" width="191"] Boston Women's March - Boston Commons[/caption]

Winter Homeless Brown Bag & Care Initiative

By admin on February 2017 in Layers

Our group of volunteers gathered in January to distribute toiletry filled Care Packages and Brown Bag Lunches to those in need. We were hosted by Pastor Silveira of Universal Missionary Church in Brockton (next door to Perkins Park where we normally gather for distributions day). There was the threat of a snow storm that morning, but was happy to see the majority of  volunteers still show up. Many we talked to have been affected by domestic violence, needed resources, and the men proudly took the White Ribbon Day Pledge which asks men to speak out against abuse...take a look at[...]

By admin on February 2017 in Layers

We always love donating to the Divas & Doll Drive, where 18 inch dolls are collected for little girls in shelters and distributed to them during the Christmas Season. The Drive's organizer, Natasha Mason Walker has conducted the effort for the last 3 years and it's brought about little smiles from many away from home for the Holidays. Brown Bag & Care – Fall Edition

By admin on October 2016 in Layers

One study in Massachusetts found that 92 percent of homeless women had experienced severe physical or sexual assault at some point in their lives. In an effort to combat this issue, Love Life Now Foundation, Inc. (year round d.v. awareness arm) started brown bagging lunches  and care packages filled with toiletries and winter accessories for the homeless in the city of Brockton regardless of gender, since abuse goes across the board. For this edition, PopUp Mani for A Cause gave graciously offered quick manicures to those that stopped by. We are forever grateful for all the volunteers and those that continue[...]

As the November 2014 Inspire a Difference winner, it was great to be among other past and current alumni of the award last night. The event brings both an 'Everyday Hero' and celebrities who are passionate about ending violence against women in the spotlight. Honored that evening was this year's Everyday Hero Chacrice Miller and celebrities Dave Navarro, Joy Behar and Maria Bello who have all been leaders in helping to put a stop to the epidemic. Many thanks to Glamour Magazine and Investigation Discovery for the invitation to be part of this powerful night of awareness. [caption id="attachment_2932" align="alignleft"[...]

By admin on October 2016 in Layers

When you think about Minnesota...you probably think about a lot of lakes or the famous Mall of America. You probably don't think of Cornerstone and the 2,076 victims of criminal domestic assault that received legal advocacy last year from their trained advocates. Met with Meg and Colleen yesterday about the services they provide. Domestic violence is everywhere and everyone's problem. Should you know someone in the MN area who looking to exit an abusive situation safely or just looking for information on counseling, legal advice or general help...please call their Crisis Line at 1.866.223.1111. http://cornerstonemn.org/emergency-services/ [caption id="attachment_2928" align="alignleft" width="300"] Cornerstone's[...]

Bedding Drive Week A Success!

By admin on October 2016 in Layers

[caption id="attachment_2921" align="alignleft" width="300"] Can you believe over 100 items fit in here?[/caption]             Survivors of D.V. are usually fleeing abusive situations with the clothes on their backs to shelters like New Hope. When they as residents of  the shelter transition to another shelter, or on their own they tend to take the sheets and pillows with them, which leaves places like New Hope with a shortage of these basic supplies. This Drive helped to replenish those supplies with your help. Over 100 new twin sheet sets, pillows, blankets and pillowcases were collected! THANK YOU[...]
